Health Alliance Medical Plans names new Chief Executive Officer

John M. Snyder, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Carle health system, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Health Alliance Medical Plans. He will continue to serve as System Chief Operating Officer, responsible for all hospital and clinic operations, as well as ancillary businesses of the Carle health system. James C. Leonard, MD, remains President and CEO of the Carle health system.

Snyder has been serving as Chief Administrative Officer at Health Alliance for two years, and in that role he has been the key executive responsible for leading operations. During that time he led Health Alliance to significantly improved operating and financial performance and launched a number of initiatives to improve medical management, network management and overall operational efficiency.

This change reflects the ongoing integration of the Carle health system components to achieve higher levels of alignment, quality and efficiency, delivering value to members and patients.

Health Alliance Medical Plans is a leading provider-driven health plan serving Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio and Washington. In 2017, Health Alliance was awarded by J.D. Power for highest member satisfaction among commercial health plans in the Illinois and Indiana Region.

It is part of The Carle Foundation, a vertically integrated health system with more than 7,000 employees in its hospitals, physician group and health plan. The 413-bed Carle Foundation Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and offers Level III perinatal services. Carle is ranked in 2017 as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, a Best Hospital by U.S. News and World Report and has achieved Magnet® designation, the nation’s highest honor for nursing care. The system includes the 24-bed critical access Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center, the 134-bed Carle Richland Memorial Hospital, and Carle Physician Group with more than 450 doctors.

Snyder served in various capacities with the corporation since 1988 including Vice President of Support Services; Vice President of Operations and Senior Vice President; Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In addition to his responsibilities at Carle and Health Alliance, John Snyder is an adjunct professor at University of Illinois in the College of Applied Health Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He received a Master’s in Business Administration in 1985 and Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1979.
